STEADY COACH / YOUR INFORMATION

App privacy.
Clear choices.

How Steady Coach uses information, what stays on your devices, and when optional services receive data.

Last reviewed: 29 October 2026 · v0.48.1 / build 59

Development status: Steady Coach is still in development. This notice describes the reviewed current project, including optional companion-watch features; it does not confirm public availability or device compatibility.

Who is responsible

John Vickers, trading as Good Things Built, is responsible for Steady Coach and for personal information we receive when you contact us. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected]. This policy covers Steady Coach phone and companion-watch features in the current development project, reviewed against phone version 0.48.1 (build 59). It does not announce a public release. Our website privacy notice explains this website separately.

At a glance

The current build does not require a Steady Coach online account or upload your training history to a Good Things Built server. It has no advertising or integrated advertising, analytics or AI service. Your training records are held locally, but optional maps, route planning, your selected speech engine, watch connectivity and destinations you choose for exports can involve other services. We do not sell your personal information or use Health Connect data for advertising.

Information saved on your devices

Steady Coach uses workout records, dates and times, distances, pace and other session metrics, strength sets and loads, routines, goals, training preferences, recovery notes and recorded GPS routes to provide training features, coaching, history and progress views. Depending on your choices and compatible equipment, records may also include heart rate, cadence and estimated calories. Settings, routing connection details and local diagnostic or test-status information are stored in the app's private storage. Local information is not automatically sent to us for support. The app makes training summaries and suggestions from this information on your device; it does not make decisions about eligibility for healthcare, employment, insurance or credit.

Location, online maps and directions

If you allow location access, Steady Coach uses your location for outdoor recording, your position on maps and navigation. A user-started recording service can continue while the screen is off; stopping the workout stops that recording. The app can also use location while you are viewing route-discovery features. You can refuse or revoke location permission, but location-dependent features will be limited.

Online maps use MapLibre and request map styles, tiles and related resources from OpenFreeMap and the resource hosts used by those styles. Requests expose connection information such as an IP address and the map areas requested. Viewing a map therefore uses the network even if the workout record is local. See OpenFreeMap's privacy policy.

If you configure a routing connection and request a planned route or reroute, Steady Coach sends the coordinates and route options needed for that request to openrouteservice, operated by HeiGIT. Your configured access key authenticates these requests and is stored locally; it is excluded from Steady backup exports. The provider receives the request and connection information. Local recording does not require an openrouteservice account. See HeiGIT's privacy policy. Do not share access keys or route files containing private places.

Optional Health Connect access

With the permissions you choose, Steady Coach reads exercise sessions, distance and heart-rate records from Health Connect when you request a foreground refresh of recent shared workouts. It uses session type and timing, distance, available heart-rate summaries, source-app information and record references to help you review shared sessions and avoid duplicate totals. It is not continuous background reading. Distance and heart-rate access are optional additions to exercise-session access.

You review changes before applying them. Selected copies are saved locally and can appear in your combined history. This build does not write records to Health Connect, upload these copies to us or an AI service, or include imported copies in Steady backup exports. Revoking Health Connect permission stops future access but does not erase copies already imported. Remove them separately in Sources & imported copies. Source updates and deletions are reviewed during a manual refresh after change tracking starts; an absent or old record is not automatically proof of deletion. Deleting a Steady copy does not delete the source record in another app. Health Connect information is used only for the user-facing fitness features described here, not advertising, sale, credit decisions or unrelated profiling.

Watch connections and spoken coaching

A compatible paired Steady companion watch uses sensor and activity permissions for supported workout features. Phone and watch exchange heart-rate readings, available cadence or estimated-calorie metrics, workout/session status, timestamps, connection information and supported control commands through Google's Wearable services. What is available depends on the device, permissions and build. Stop the watch sensor separately when you no longer want wrist readings; stopping it does not necessarily end the phone workout. Clear data on each device if you want to remove both devices' local settings and records.

Bundled exercise videos and recorded coaching play locally. Text-to-speech uses the Android voice engine and voice you select; an online engine may process text through its provider. Choose an installed offline voice if you want offline speech. We do not run a speech-recognition service or request microphone permission in this phone build. See Google's privacy information and your chosen voice provider's policy for their processing.

Backups, exports and other links

Android automatic app backup and device-transfer backup are disabled by this project's backup settings. You choose whether and where to export a Steady backup or share an image or file. Complete backups can contain precise routes, training history and recovery details and are not encrypted by Steady Coach. They exclude the routing access key and imported Health Connect copies. Protect exported files and choose destinations carefully: a cloud drive, messaging or other destination app handles its copy under its own policy. Restoring a file reads its supported contents back into local app storage. Locally generated sharing files and restore working files can also occupy app storage.

Exercise-source and licence links open external websites only when you choose to follow them; those sites have their own practices. The website's privacy policy covers opening our web pages.

Purposes, choices and legal bases

Information on your device is used to provide the fitness tools you choose, such as recording a session, reviewing progress, playing coaching or importing a selected workout. Optional device and Health Connect permissions can be refused or withdrawn in system settings. Permission to use a device feature does not give us general permission to use your information for another purpose.

Where we receive personal information to answer an enquiry or handle a privacy request, we rely on our legitimate interests in supporting users, maintaining the service and resolving enquiries, or on a legal obligation when one applies. Where processing is necessary to provide a service you ask us to supply, the applicable basis may be performance of that service agreement. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Health information has additional protections; any processing requiring explicit consent or another special-category condition must meet that requirement. This policy does not turn an Android permission prompt into consent for unrelated processing. Do not send health records, full backups, passwords or routing keys by email.

How long information is kept

Local workout records, imported copies, routes and preferences remain until you remove them, clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Temporary files and cache can remain until the app or operating system clears them or you clear app storage. Copies on your watch and exported copies elsewhere have separate lifetimes.

We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to answer and resolve the enquiry, handle a complaint or meet an applicable legal obligation. If correspondence must be retained for a dispute or legal obligation, it is kept for that purpose rather than reused for marketing. Routing, map, Google and other providers set retention for the information their services receive; deleting Steady data does not automatically erase their logs. Their linked notices explain their processing.

Removing data and withdrawing access

To remove all local phone information, stop any active workout, save an independent backup if needed, then use Android Settings → Apps → Steady Coach → Storage → Clear data (names vary by device). This removes local training records and settings, including locally stored routing credentials. Clear the watch app's data separately. Uninstalling normally removes app-private data but does not remove files you exported.

You can remove imported Health Connect copies within the app and revoke access using Health Connect's permission controls. Remove originals through their source app or Health Connect if you also want those erased. Delete backups, shared images and other exports in every destination where you saved them. We cannot remotely retrieve or erase files held only on your devices or in your chosen destination services. This build has no Good Things Built online account to close.

Service providers, international processing and security

Privacy email is forwarded by Porkbun to our Google-hosted mailbox. Those services process message and technical information to deliver, secure and store correspondence. See Porkbun privacy and Google privacy. Online features and email services may process information outside the UK. Provider notices describe their locations and safeguards; contact us about a transfer relating to information we hold. We do not promise a particular country for all network processing.

The app uses Android app-private storage and HTTPS for its configured routing and map endpoints. Device security, updates, screen locks and the security of exported destinations matter. Private storage is not the same as an independently encrypted backup. No storage or transmission method is guaranteed completely secure.

Your privacy rights and questions

Depending on the information and circumstances, UK data-protection law gives rights to be informed, request access, correction or erasure, restrict processing, object to processing, and receive portable information where applicable. Contact [email protected] to exercise a right or ask a question. Tell us enough to identify the request without sending unnecessary private records. We may need proportionate information to confirm identity, but we will not ask for your account password or routing key. We can only act on information we hold; the controls above let you manage information held locally.

You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. You do not have to contact us first. If features, providers or data handling change, we will update this notice and its review date and provide additional disclosure or choices where needed.
